Summer Hair Care

Want to keep your hair feeling and looking it's best this summer?

I've got some tips just for you!

UV rays can be a major hair villain, breaking down hair protein and messing with your hair color! Tip: Grab a hair product with UV protection and slather it on before stepping out into the sun. Don't forget to protect your scalp too, with a hat or some SPF.

Now, let's talk about pool days. Chlorinated water can be harsh on your hair. Here's my fav trick: drench your hair in water before taking the plunge. This helps your hair soak up less chlorine and keeps it looking healthy.

Oh, and one more thing! We can't forget about split ends. They can be a real buzzkill when it comes to healthy-looking hair. So why not give them a little trim? :)

Here’s my favorite hair products for summer:

Pricing Structure Changes

The way that I have done color over these past 5 years has evolved and modernized with the times. Now, after all these years of experience and education I've invested in, I can confidently say that I specialize in Lived-in Color. :)

Lived-in color is using a combination of hair coloring techniques to create a blended, low maintenance look that requires less visits to the salon. This is now the expectation for most when they visit a hair salon for color. Haircolor services are no longer 1 or 2 techniques/processes (i.e., foil highlights, toner) but now require many forms of highlighting (foilyage, tease-y lights, babylights, balayage, etc.) and toning techniques (root smudge, color melt, etc.).

This work is much more detailed, requires more time and uses more product. I am finally re-structuring my color menu to reflect these changes in processes. This means a more simplified booking for you, and the tools I need to successfully give you the aesthetic and maintenance goals you are after.

These changes go into affect 2/9, if you have a booked appointment already it will be changed to reflect the new menu. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!

Now offering discounts on some services when booking multiple services and as of 2/2/24, you will have access to Vagaro's Book Now, Pay Later option! See more info at checkout.

Life Update!

As a lot of you know, I am currently planning an out of state move to Portland, OR this spring.
But, fear not! I will still be taking clients in Oakland until October! (maybe later? tbd!) of this year while I get setteled up in the PNW.

While not convenient, this will help me to maintain an income while I transition to a new place and build new community/clientelle (and a new career in UX Design, find me on Linkedin to follow along with my career journey!). Currently, I plan on being in Oakland every other week for a few days each. I highly recommend booking out the appointments you anticipate needing now.

Thank you again for riding along with me on this journey. You all really are the best and I am so glad we don't have to say goodbye just yet.

Because I am not ready! :)

As most of you know, I strongly value sustainability practices and I continue to work to incorprate them into my work and home life. So, I thought I'd take a moment to finally tell you about what I've been boing behind the scenes.

Product Used: For color, I have been using Davines since Reflejo Hair Studio opened. This italian brand is a certified B Corp and is responsible for the quote above. Davines has been actively working towards setting an example in the hair industry on how to reduce waste and neutralize carbon emissons for the past 16 years. Check out Davines sustainability report here.

I'll also now be selling Davines retail, carried at Be Hair Studio.

Waste: A wonderful company named Green Circle helps salons recover and recycle up to 95% of Beauty Waste. Be Hair Studio is a Green Circle salon and that makes me even more excited to be a part of their team.

Personal Choices: Any opportunity I have to use a tool that is reuseable/recycleable and not single use, I choose that! From using mesh sheets and not foil, reuseable gloves. I look forward to continuing to incorporate what I can!

Next time you’re in my chair, let's trade some sustainability tips with each other!

That’s all for now! If you’ve made it all the way to here, you’re a real one. :)

Much Love,

April
